Otron was contracted to provide a solution in the mining sector relating to inventory tracking and low stock management for mine site workshops.

While mining companies have robust ordering and procurement processes in place, the last stage in the repair chain is often overlooked and the lost revenue that comes from an equipment down situation can be significant.

Our solution allows mine stock controllers to track the “last yard” of moving parts from the workshop storage container to the job site or equipment that is being repaired. Stock controllers receive alerts when items at the remote stock containers reach a minimum stock level so they can re-order items to ensure each workshop is always well stocked.

The solution involves various levels of integration between the following:

  • Ruggedised MILSPEC Windows tablet device including:
    • Wireless barcode scanner
    • Touchscreen interface
  • Custom built Windows tablet software for:
    • Scanning out stock items from storage
    • Receiving new stock orders
    • Stocktake adjustments
  • Cloud database for tracking stock levels on a per workshop basis
  • Cloud API for tablet stock level synchronisation
  • Web management portal for stock controller to manage:
    • Inventory
    • Minimum stock levels
    • Low stock notifications
    • User access
  • Remote support and ongoing system updates

The system is known as Last Yard Inventory Tracking (LYIT) and was created in conjunction with Ferrum Engineering. If you would like to know more about the solution, please set up a discovery call to discuss with our team.
